No longer in service, its performance has never been bettered (by any announced aircraft). It could fly at over 2000 mph; it flew from New York to London in less than two hours and London to Los Angeles in less than four. They were operated by the 9th SRW from Beale AFB, CA. 64-17979 SR71A is at Fairford, July 1985. This airframe is now preserved at Lackland AFB, TX. 46 Above: One variant of the Tornado operated by only the Luftwaffe is the ECR.
