The 2001 foreign convention on Case-Based Reasoning (ICCBR 2001, www.iccbr.org/iccbr01), the fourth within the biennial ICCBR sequence (1995 in Sesimbra, Portugal; 1997 in windfall, Rhode Island (USA); 1999 in Seeon, Germany), was once held in the course of 30 July – 2 August 2001 in Vancouver, Canada. ICCBR is the greatest foreign discussion board for researchers and practitioners of case dependent reasoning (CBR). The pursuits of this assembly have been to nurture major, correct advances made during this box (both in learn and application), speak them between all attendees, motivate destiny advances, and proceed to aid the imaginative and prescient that CBR is a important approach in lots of examine disciplines, either computational and another way. ICCBR 2001 used to be the 1st ICCBR assembly hung on the Pacific coast, and we used the atmosphere of lovely Vancouver as a chance to reinforce participation from the Pacific Rim groups, which contributed 28% of the submissions. in this assembly, we have been lucky to host invited talks by means of Ralph Bergmann, Ken Forbus, Jaiwei Han, Ramon López de Mántaras, and Manuela Veloso. Their contributions ensured a stimulating assembly; we thank them all.

They used the Wavelet transform because it is scaleindependent, but this limits their similarity measure to consider only object rotation. Representing images at multiple levels of abstraction presents some technical challenges. When representing an image with a high-level abstraction rather than the image matrix itself, some information will be lost. Abstraction requires deciding which details of an image are necessary. If only some objects are seen at one time, then we might think that one detail is not of interest since our decision is based on a limited number of objects.

This can cause problems. Therefore, storing the images themselves is always preferable but requires high storage capacity. Also, the different representations at each abstraction level require different similarity measures. Why Case-Based Reasoning Is Attractive for Image Interpretation 33 5 Similarity Measures for Image Interpretation Images can be rotated, translated, different in scale, or may have different contrast and energy yet still considered to be similar. In contrast, two images may be dissimilar because the object in one image is rotated by 180 degrees.
